Today I received my first care package. My Mom sent me a box of food.....Golden Flake Cheese Curls, Bud's Best Lemon Cookies, Bottle of Dale's marinade, and lots of packages of blueberry muffin mixes. All things I love to buy in Alabama and can not buy in CA. Thanks Mom. I was so excited to see the mailman coming, that I met him by the pool and opened my package there.
My Aunt Jon' also sent me a new pair of Alabama sunglasses and a tan Alabama hat. I was just telling Nate the other day that I could not find my hat.
Thanks again Mom and Jon' for my package.

Trying to Navigate LAX again!
My mom is on a plane headed into LAX this morning. I am leaving in a few minutes to go pick her up.Nate was not able to get off work today so I am once again headed to the Giant LAX to pick up a family member. I hope I can find her this time. She has made sure her cell phone is charged and ready to go.
She will be staying with us for the next week. We are all really excited to have our first Alabama visitor. My house has been cleaned and plans made. We are going to go to the beach, pool, mall, San Diego Zoo, Santa Monica Pier, and play lots of games of Settlers.
There will be lots of pictures and stories to post as this week of family fun continues.

Registering the Kids
I have just gotten home from the start of registering the kids for school. My mom is bringing the shot records with her on Wed. The school offices are not opened all summer, so the office was really busy. Both Cori and Joel will find out their teachers the day before school starts, Sept 8th. Joel goes to school from 8:30 -3:20 M,T,Th, F and from 8:30 - 12:50 on Wed. He will walk or bike to school, only a couple of blocks away. Cori goes the same all week, 7:45 - 2:10 and she will ride the bus that will pick her up on the next street over. Both kids are very excited about getting ready for school. We will be tackling the school supply lists this weekend when my mom comes for a visit. Cori is going to be able to get a tour of her school and the classrooms on Thursday. This is for all the 6th graders.

1st time Painting ALONE!
The person who had lived in our condo before us, had the place repo'd so there were a lot of things that were completed halfway. Both bathrooms are painted a creamy pee color. So we found some white paint in our garage and repainted the kids bathroom. Nate asked me to help with the first coat of paint. Now, I have only painted one other time in my life. My best friend Bek and I painted the basement rooms she was moving into beck when we were in college. We also had her mom's help and supervision.
So I get all my brushes and paints together and start to paint. After I had painted all the walls, I realized I should have started with the ceiling. I also should have brought the fan into the room to help circulate the air. Lastly, the can of paint says it will wash off with soap and water. I did not know that it meant while the paint was still wet. After finishing painting the bathroom, I had to scrape and scrub the floor to get the paint up. The mistakes I made while painting the bathroom are all lessons learned so as I will do better when we paint our bathroom.
Nate helped me paint the second coat of paint. Nate painted the door and rehung the towel racks and toilet paper holder. The bathroom looks really good and the kids are happy that this 3 day project is over and they can use their bathroom again.

Navigating LAX
On Saturday morning, my cousin Joseph had a 4 hour layover at LAX. Joe was flying from Australia back to Atlanta. We decided that I would drive up to LAX and meet him for lunch on his layover. I have never driven on the 405 interstate and never to the airport. I programed the gps and took off. I drove on an interstate that has 7 lanes without the entrance and exit only lanes (in one direction). We are all driving about 70 mph and the traffic is as heavy as driving in rush hour on 280 in Birmingham. As I was getting to the airport Joe called me to say he was waiting at terminal 5 Delta. He also said he would not have a cell phone. I drove through the terminals (1-7) 4 times and still never found Joe. I called his friends cell and told her I could not find him. It turns out he was one floor up at departures and I was looking for him at arrivals. So now I have to figure out how to get onto the interstate and to get home. The traffic around the terminals is 4 lanes of traffic and 2 lanes inside the curbs, where you pick up people. It was really crazy. I turned on the gps to send me home and as soon as I turned on a street the gps told me to take the road I was passing. Then when I did not take the right road the gps would say "recalculating" and then it would take to long to recalculate and I would miss my turn again, and it would say "recalculation" at this point I am laughing at my luck of the day. I finally pull over so that my gps can figure out where I am and get me on the right road home. It was a very comical morning. I finally got home in time to rest for 1.5 hours before leaving for work. Now I feel very confident that in a 1.5 weeks when I have to go get my mom from the airport I will be able to navigate the entire trip.

Just a quick update
This week has flown by. I am starting to get more shifts at work. Tonight I got a call from my Server Manager just wanting to check on me and see how I am still liking the job, how I feel about my tables and schedule. Every time I work I get better and more comfortable with the menu and restaurant. Nate is loving his job and keeping busy between working, schoolwork, and cooking some AWESOME meals for the family. We all know that I HATE to cook and only do it b/c as a mom and woman it is my job. So it is an extra treat when Nate cooks and I don't have to. He made a cake for dessert this evening too.
We changed our family day this week to Tuesday because of our work schedules. We took the kids to the South Coast Plaza, which is the mall area that Nate works at. This mall was the ritzy of the ritzy. The anchor stores are Macy's and Sears (for normal people) and Bloomingdale's, Sak's, Nordstrom's (for the richer). Then there was Prada, Louis Vuitton, Armonie, and a bunch more exclusive stores. Nate and I thought we were going to be charged for window shopping. I found out after we came home that this mall is where all the rich and famous shop from LA to Newport Beach. I was a different kind of mall trip.
I have also started another blog. I am writting one that is just for books. This blog is for reviews and recommendations from books that I have read. Feel free to read and make other suggestions as well as let me know if you like any of the books. Here is the blog http://booksbythehandfull.blogspot.com/

Thursday/Friday Fun

Joel pounding out the chicken |
Last night I was off work and so I asked Nate to make dinner. Nate asked Joel to help him cook. Joel learned how to cut up the green onions, bread the chicken and make the pasta. The dinner was great. We had Chicken Marsele, which is a chicken breaded and topped with a mushroom and green onion sauce severed over a bed of angel hair pasta with an aglio butter. I found out this morning that Nate gave Joel some money since he helped make dinner. Joel was even more excited then.

This morning I got out of the shower to see that Nate had made breakfast for the family and delivered it to us. Cori's to her bed and mine to the counter in the bathroom. Joel was already up and watching tv.

When we got home, I took the kids to the pool for a couple of hours. Now Nate and Joel are spending some time together, Cori is spending the night at a friends house and I have the place to myself.

2 Months and Counting
We have now been out in California for 2 months and are starting to get into a routing. We both have jobs and have unpacked the entire house. We have been to the beach and the pool many times. Both kids have made a few friends and we done lots of things as a family. We have started going thru our DVD collection and having "movie night". There are a lot of good movies we have that the kids are now getting old enough to watch. We have watched the Xmen series, Twilight series, Terminator series, and Monday night the kids and Nate watched "I am Legend". I got home about 15 min before the movie ended. After the movie was over, both kids came into my bedroom and asked if zombies are real. Nate had told them "yes" and they wanted to know the real answer. Joel started describing the movie to me. His arms are waving and he is jumping up and down, while tell me the movie was "awesome, it has action, drama, romance, scary and everything." Then both kids went to watch "happy" movies in their rooms before going to sleep.
